One Heart One Mind is non-profit based in rural Uganda with a mission to create opportunity and promote self-reliance through access to quality education, primary healthcare, affordable micro-finance and renewable energy.

About us

What we do.

Our biggest goal is to build programs of sustainability and self-reliance. We do this through providing vulnerable children with a quality education, promoting solar energy, emphasizing the importance of primary healthcare, and the financial freedom of micro-financing.

Areas of focus.

01

Access to renewable energy.

Our history has always involved the impact of renewable energy. We believe affordable access to clean energy is a vital aspect of the economic growth for African communities. We work with local co-operative organizations to create financial access to and distribute household solar lighting solutions. These affordable products eliminate the use of kerosene lighting, improve quality of health and education while improving household income. Working with these partners we can contribute to promoting financial literacy and improved access to and repayment of micro-loans.

02

Access to quality education.

We aim to provide high quality primary education, housing and nutrition for vulnerable children. At the foundation of every child’s development is their education. We work to build a learning environment where children can grow to embrace the importance of education and gain the skills to become contributing members of their society. Daily meals and clean water are provided for students and staff. That adds up to 150,000 meals in a year. Housing is available for students. In the summer of 2018 we completed brand new dorms for the children to stay in.

03

Access to primary healthcare.

We believe that everyone should have access to on going basic healthcare. That is why the 1Heart1Mind team built a medical clinic right by the boarding school. Our amazing nurse runs the clinic that serves our students, staff, and the surrounding community.  Hundreds now have the healthcare they deserve. We can't wait to see the impact this clinic will have through the years!

04

Access to affordable micro-finance.

We aim to promote financial inclusivity for small business owners, especially women growing their businesses. We accomplish this through affordable lending products and training to create self reliance.  Due to the lack of a credit system, high risk in lending, difficulty in establishing credit and extremely high cost of borrowing capital, access to affordable capital to grow a small business can be difficult or even impossible. The benefits of micro-finance extend beyond the direct effects of providing a source for capital. Entrepreneurs who create successful businesses, in turn, create jobs, trade, and overall economic improvement within a community. One of Zion Microfinance’s main goals is to help poor, vulnerable, small business owners, groups and especially women entrepreneurs in Eastern Uganda who otherwise would have no other access to financial service, to start businesses.
